FUND HIGHLIGHTS
This Fund was established in 2024 to honour the life of Eva May Geary. May lived her entire life in Timiskaming, growing up on a farm in Beauchamp Township and then later living in New Liskeard. Being the eldest of seven children, she had to stop her education at grade 8 to help on the farm although she had educational goals and dreams for herself. When May had a family of her own, she encouraged her children to strive for decent lives, modelled strength, and supported their educational endeavours as best as she could.
The North Star Fund is a unique scholarship fund with a goal to financially support young people in following their dreams. The Fund will be granting for the first time in 2026 and will be advertised directly to schools throughout the Timiskaming District. To apply for the scholarship, students are asked to submit an essay that demonstrates how they would use the funds to further their education in the pursuit of a dream or ambition.
