FUND HIGHLIGHTS
This restricted fund was established in 1998 by Bette and Edmund E. Campbell. The income is used to support the operations and programs of the Temiskaming Art Gallery.
Bette Campbell was born in Ottawa, but was a long time resident of Haileybury. She was trained as a concert pianist and was a graduate of the University of Toronto. She married her husband Edmund, who was a geologist and mining engineer. They moved to Haileybury in 1952 as he started his career in Cobalt. Bette was a talented artist who had studied palette knife technique at the Schneider School of Fine Arts, and often used this technique as well as drawing with chalk pastels. Her art was usually inspired by the beauty of the North. Bette was a founding Director of the Temiskaming Art Gallery, and often opened her home and garden to raise money for the gallery. For this, she was awarded Haileybury's Citizen of the Year award in 1984.
