We are excited to announce that our 2024 Vital Signs Report has been published!
This report serves as an update to our previous 2021 Vital Signs publication. It features community stories and data on the following topics: Health and Well-being, Community Safety, Road Safety, Housing and Standard of Living. These topics were chosen in coordination with the goals and priority areas outlined by the Timiskaming District Community Safety and Well-being Plan. The report also brings in a youth focus through featuring findings from the research conducted by Planet Youth Temiskaming.
“The Vital Signs Report is unique as it based off data specific to the Timiskaming District. I think everyone can take something away from reading the report.” said Julia Bigelow, Development and Outreach Coordinator at TTF.
Vital Signs is Canada’s most extensive community-driven data program1. It is an initiative through Community Foundations of Canada and is led by community foundations across the country.
“Vital Signs uses local knowledge to measure the vitality of a community and support action towards improving collective quality of life. Local data gathered through the program is used to support evidence-based, locally-relevant solutions to improve the quality of life at the community level. Vital Signs aims to inspire civic engagement, to provide focus for public debate, and to help a range of actors take action and direct resources where they will have the greatest impact.”

In creating the report, we conducted a Vital Signs survey to give community members a chance to share their thoughts and opinions about our community. The survey was completed by 321 respondents who rated our community in each of the focus areas. The survey also includes more detailed questions, such as activity levels, cost of living and feeling of safety in our community. Of the 29 respondents who opted to leave a comment, 7 mentioned concerns about community safety. Full survey results are available on our website.
“I am very excited about the ways in which the Vital Signs Report can be used in our community,” said TTF Executive Director Brigid Wilkinson, “Our hope is that this report will spark conversations about priorities in our community and help build a case for support for projects targeting these areas.”
English and French versions of the report can be found on our website, at www.temiskamingfoundation.ca/vitalsigns.
