On June 17th the Temiskaming Foundation’s Board of Directors approved more than $124,000 in grants to be awarded to various organizations in Timiskaming from the following four funds: the School Nutrition Fund/fond d’alimentation saine pour les élèves, the Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund/fond de prévention de l’itinérance de Zack’s Crib, the Community Cancer Care Fund and the Gord & Greyson Zubyck Memorial Fund (otherwise known as One Foot Forward).
“We would like to thank all of the members of the community who have made donations over the years, and those that volunteer their time on our granting committees, making these grants possible,” said Temiskaming Foundation Executive Director Brigid Wilkinson.
The School Nutrition Fund/fond d’alimentation saine pour les élèves was founded by the Foundation Board in April of 2024 to help address the budgetary needs of school nutrition programs throughout the Timiskaming District. Food insecurity continues to be an issue in our community, impacting 1 in 4 youth in the District of Timiskaming. In 2025, fifteen schools received over $13,000 in grants to support breakfast, lunch, and snack programs, helping more than 3700 students. This year, eighteen schools in the District applied for and will share in more than $16,000 in funding.
The Zack’s Crib Homeless Prevention Fund/fond de prévention de l’itinérance de Zack’s Crib is open to organizations supporting those experiencing homelessness or working to prevent homelessness in the District of Timiskaming. After the closure of the Zack’s Crib Crisis Centre, the remaining assets were transferred to the Temiskaming Foundation to create a Fund to continue to support organizations working to prevent homelessness or assisting those experiencing homelessness. The successful applicants for the first year of granting are: Pavillion Women’s Centre for architectural plans for their transitional housing project; Canadian Mental Health Association for improving safety, stability and dignity in transitional housing rooms, and Centre du Santé for their Wraparound Housing Stability project.
The primary focus of the Gordon and Greyson Zubyck Memorial Fund is to support various community sport organizations and groups with funding to enhance programs for young children. Last year $27,010 was distributed by the Fund. This year, an incredible $57,760 will be granted, with $25,000 directed to the AC15 Pump Track project. Stay tuned to the One Foot Forward socials for announcements of the successful applicants!
Congratulations to all of the recipients of grants this June. The next round of grant applications to our community funds will take place in September.
